Jill, Des and Jon drove out to Bath for a long weekend, and made a few side-trips.

Bath is famous for its hot mineral spring, around which the Romans built an impressive...bath.  Its pretty amazing, really. Genera Wolfe (of the Plains of Abraham battle for Quebec) is from here.

Wells is the smallest city in England (a hamlet is officially a city if it has a cathedral).  The cathedral was originally built about 700AD.  For whatever reason, they pulled it down and started  another in 1180.(it took 250 years to finish). William Penn (founder of Pennsylvania) is from here.

Glastonbury is a weird place.  It has a cool ruined abbey, and a giant hill that sticks up out of nowhere.  It sits on a former island in the Somerset Levels - the Isle of Avalon. It was once a megalithic centre and later a Druid college. Its Abbey became a famous pilgrimage place in medieval times.  Mostly Hippies are from here.

Caerphilly Castle is just inside Wales.  It is the second largest castle in the UK, and has some pretty neat defensive features. It was started on April 11, 1268.  More here: http://www.castlewales.com/caerphil.html
